Our Weekend Escape with Getaway House

My husband and I recently had the opportunity to spend a night away together compliments of Getaway House - an incredible tiny cabin glamping experience less than an hour from our home! I got several questions after sharing about our time on Instagram, so I’m answering them here, along with a peek at our cabin site!

Each Getaway outpost is strategically located within a two-hour drive from major cities, so they’re very accessible, and perfect even if you’re only able to escape for a night or two.

As soon as we arrived to our site in Asheboro, NC, I was in love with the entire set-up. The check-in was seamless (more on that in a bit!), the cabin was clean, spacious, and cozy, and the privacy and tree-filled views were beautiful and peaceful. We unloaded and got a fire going to relax a bit before making dinner.

Each cabin at the outpost comes with nearly everything you could need for the fire pit and indoor cooking, plus a bin full of amenities for purchase, like snacks, coffee, and pasta.

We planned ahead and brought all of our own food and a few outdoor cooking items, and after a few requests on Instagram, I’ve included our package list at the bottom of this post!

What is the booking and check-in process like?

The booking process is incredibly easy and can all be done online. The email and text communication prior to our stay was very helpful and included reminders, links to FAQs, helpful journal posts, directions/the address, fun road trip playlists, and an outpost map. The location was easy to find, and the check-in was completely contactless with our cabin name and codes provided earlier in the day.

Was the cabin site private?

I got various forms of this question several times, and I loved being able to share some videos on my Instagram highlights that show the inside of our cabin, along with our outdoor view. While we could walk around and see other cabins, only the back of one other cabin was visible (but not very close) from our fire pit and picnic table area. We stayed at a relatively new outpost, so there were new tree plantings beside our fire pit space that will soon create even more of a barrier. Cabin sites are positioned in a way that offer privacy, while still making best use of the space. And the giant picture window by the bed is facing a wooded area with no views of other cabins, plus there are rolling blinds for all windows.

Was there running water and electricity?

Yes! There were basically all of the comforts of home, including an indoor toilet and private shower, comfortable bed, cooking and eating utensils, and outdoor seating.

What did you pack?

Here’s our packing list for one night away:

  • Coffee grounds, pour-over coffee maker, and filters (they do have coffee and biodegradable self-brew filters for purchase in the cabin)

  • Coffee creamer

  • Cooler with ice and beer

  • Insect spray and Sunscreen

  • Log bundle and Kindling (they do have logs + fire starter available for purchase)

  • Pre-marinated chicken, potatoes, and Brussels sprouts (the cabin had lighters for the fire pit and all of the cooking utensils we needed)

  • Aluminum foil

  • Bagels, eggs, and butter

  • Cast iron pans (for outdoor cooking on the fire pit; although you could easily just use heavy duty foil)

  • Snacks

  • Bluetooth speaker

  • Phone chargers

  • Fishing rod

  • Camera tripod with Bluetooth remote

  • Clothing (include a pair of slip-on shoes, as you’ll want to be shoeless inside the cabin and have a pair that can be easily put on and taken off when you’re going in and out)

  • Hiking boots (we didn’t end up leaving our site, but Getaway did provide a list of nearby trails and attractions)

  • Toiletries
